Differentiated Math Fact Practice

Making Ten

4th Grade Resources

Deep in the Heart of Texas Blog Hop

Hi Ya'll!  I'm Mrs Balius from Mrs Balius's First Grade.  I'm a first grade teacher from Houston, Texas.  I teach at a public Charter school in the East end.  I have been a first grade ESL teacher for six year, and just LOVE it.
I love Houston because of its diversity!

I love the food!
I love the zoo!
I love the Children's Museum of Houston!

I love that we are so close to Galveston beach!
I love the Houston Ballet!

I love the rodeo!
I am a self contained first grade teacher, but I LOVE to teach math.  I like teaching reading too, but there is something really special about being able to teach kids math concepts even when they don't know how to read yet, either because they are English Language Learners (ELL), or because they have not "gotten it" yet.  One of my favorite parts of the day is when we  practice our Number of the Day at the beginning of our math bock.
Number of the Day is a spiraling math  review meant to be done everyday of the year.
One of the things that my kids really love is that each page has some very cute graphics that they get to color after they have finished the math!

There is a new Number of the Day for each month (including summer) for grades K-2.  Third grade is in the works!

Here is a FREEBIE for ya!  It is ten pages of Number of the Day practice with a Valentine theme:
My kids love it!  I hope yours will too.
Check out the freebies I'm currently offering on my blog.

  2. We just visited the zoo the other day because my niece and nephew are down for vacation. Next week we are going to the children's museum, where I've never been. Thanks for participating in the hop!

  6. Found this a little late to participate, but loved reading your blog. I'm originally from Houston and transplanted to California. I miss Houston so much, espcially during rodeo time! I also teach first grade at a charter school. I'll be dropping in again!
